    Hi Thompson,

I was just reading your blog post about failure = success and I think its really important that people get this message. The more that we think of success and failure as opposites instead of parts of a larger whole, the bigger disappointments we may face.

I was also fascinated about the lesson of the “genetic programming” paradigm you described. I think there is a lot we can learn from the world of software development and that can be applied to innovation in aesthetic and social causes.

My passion for these issues of late stems from the short video I recently completed as a collaborative effort with participants in a fail conference held here in Berlin.

How secure must we be to take risks?
Does anonymity play a big role in how you behave online?
What is the difference between losing and failing?

    FAIL SAFE

I would love to know what you think of the video and if you would be happy to share it with your networks I believe it puts into moving images what you have so eloquently expressed in words đŸ™‚

    Greetings from Berlin,
    Gabriel Shalom

About a year ago I got to talking to him about his assessment of the state of technology education in Oregon (poor) and about a plan he had for improving the situation. One of the things he wanted to do was to kick off a pilot program where a group of kids would create an app with the help of a mentor over the course of several months. With suprisingly little cajoling, I volunteered to be that mentor. We had our first meetings last spring (2012) and started coding beginning of summer vacation in June. […]
